I buy soybeans from farmers and other commercial elevators. The plant where I work processes these soybeans into soybean meal and soybean oil. I then sell these products to end users, specifically dairies and other livestock operations.

I would be happy to help teachers by providing background information for lesson content, doing a virtual classroom visit via Skype, suggesting possible field trips, or providing materials such as soybeans or soybean oil.

What is the benefit of collaboration between industry and education?

I think it’s crucial for educators to understand the jobs that are available and in high demand in the agricultural world. There’s no better way for students to learn than to hear real-world experiences from the people on the front lines of the industry. Additionally, industry representatives may be able to provide resources that teacher workshops or other information sources can’t provide.

What do teachers and students need to know about your industry?

You can’t go wrong with agriculture. Not only are there more opportunities than you can imagine for personal career advancement, but you can also go to bed every night knowing you played a part in keeping people fed and clothed.
