Global need for protein

Two new career videos are now available on GrowNextGen.org. Produced through a partnership between the Ohio Soybean Council and the Columbus Council on World Affairs, these videos provide interesting information about global issue of nutrition and related careers.

Steven Hart, director of the Soy Aquaculture Alliance, talks about aquaculture as a source of protein, with soybeans in high demand for feeding the fish. Hart mentions the variety of jobs connected to this industry, from aqua farming to marketing and distribution. He emphasizes the importance of science and math as foundational to future opportunities.

Karen Edwards of the World Soy Foundation talks about Ohio soybeans going around the world to boost protein content in indigenous foods. Feeding the world’s growing population will require scientists, educators, business people and communicators, among other careers. She encourages students to connect with professionals, find leadership opportunities, and get involved in global hunger work.
