Inquiry-based learning delights students

Susan Scott

I am a Cleveland Metropolitan School teacher who teaches Reading K-8. This year I participated in Chick Quest with my 3rd graders. We had 9 chicks hatch! My students were ecstatic from the time we set up the incubator until the chicks hatched. They looked forward to the daily activities and were delighted to participate in research about chickens. The class wanted to learn more and more about the chickens and their families became interested too. It was wonderful to see the inquiry-based learning take place in the classroom.

When the time came for the chickens to go to their new home on an Amish farm, the students were disappointed to see them leave and requested to hatch more chickens in the spring. It was a terrific experience that I wish every teacher and class could have! Thank you for the training and materials to support my students’ learning.
