GrowNextGen industry leader

Matthew Stroud

Product Agronomist at DuPont Pioneer

In my job, I select new corn hybrids, soybean varieties and wheat varieties to be placed in our commercial lineup. I work with research, technical teams and sales to support our customers in achieving the best yields they can on their farms. I also do sales and agronomy visits to troubleshoot problems farmers are having in their fields.

What is the benefit of collaboration between industry and education?

This is vital. With the world the way it is today, mainstream media has a major impact on views and perceptions of agriculture. Teaching our youth the facts is essential. Some things that media report are true, and some things are not. I think it is very important to help our youth make educated decisions and separate the facts from the fiction. Working with folks with “boots on the ground” in agriculture is a great place to start learning those facts!

What value/assistance can you and your company provide to teachers and classrooms as they connect with you?

I am willing to help in whatever matter I can. I would be happy to give you background support for lesson planning, or do some video chatting with your class. If you think of it, just ask and I will work to make sure we at least make a solid attempt to satisfy any of your support needs.

Why should teachers connect with you through GrowNextGen?

I am a younger member of the agriculture industry. I connect well with young people, as I am only 28 years old. I enjoy educating our youth on the facts of agriculture. Agriculture is the greatest industry in the world, with the most jobs and careers. In time, all those jobs will need new, young people to step in and take over, and I want to make sure we have the young people we need to accomplish that.
