I love helping students make sense of the world around them. Science is fascinating and it is very empowering to gain scientific knowledge and understanding. I also love that I have the privilege of making a difference in my students’ lives by helping them, believing in them and encouraging them to be the best people they can be. It’s not just about science, but also about teaching them to be a good person.
To me, using the context of agriculture in science education makes perfect sense in order to truly connect our students to our natural resources and our responsibility to care for our environment. We live in a world where there is typically a big disconnect between how we use resources in our daily lives and where those resources actually come from. Food does not magically come from a grocery store or a drive through. Energy does not come from a light switch. Our resources come from the earth. So, if students can learn the science behind agriculture, we are one step closer to promoting sustainable and responsible care for our earth in future generations.
