Chicks draw in admiring visitors

Mrs. Margie Bodle
3rd grade

I am a Cleveland Metropolitan Schools Basic Skills teacher working at St. Mark Catholic School in Cleveland. We incubated and hatched 5 chicks with both 3rd grade classes. It was so much fun! I introduced the unit to the students the day we set up the incubator. They watched those eggs everyday for 21 days, convinced they could hear peeping after only 2 days!

The morning the first chick hatched was so exciting. They wanted to watch the chicks all day. They named them right away but every student gave them their own personal name so each chick had many names! The Kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd grades came to visit. We even had a few junior high students come by! We are looking forward to doing this again next year.
