Last spring at East Technical High School in Cleveland, students in 9-12 Agriscience Education classes experienced firsthand the miracle of life through the hatching of baby chicks. ChickQuest allowed students to take ownership and protect the lives of young hatchlings. I was absent from the classroom the day the chicks were hatching due to a meeting; I received a phone call from an administrator stating that there was an emergency in my classroom. Come to find out, the students were shocked that chicks actually hatched from the eggs we incubated. My students told all of their friends and shared images on social media, and asked to take all of the chicks home to keep. It was an exciting experience that we will continue this spring.
So THAT’S what was in those eggs?!?
