There’s lots of jobs to know about!

GrowNextGen teacher leader Jane Hunt recently led 17 Ashland educators through Teacher Boot Camp, a two day event sponsored by North Central Workforce Alliance and the Ashland Community Foundation. The workshop allowed teachers to see behind the scenes of local businesses and hear about career opportunities.

Teachers visited the following locations:
Charles River Laboratories
Ohio Department of Transportation
American Augers
Barbasol
Snyder/Lance/Archway
Brethren Care

In addition, speakers from Mielke Constuctors shared their company and work possibilities there.

Before leaving the workshop, teachers brainstormed ideas about how to share the lessons learned with their students. Teachers were later recognized at a banquet where they each received a $250 stipend to help support those lesson ideas.

The information shared by the employers had a common theme: potential employees with a desire to work, good attendance and communication skills are seen as valuable and all employers were willing to invest in them. Most sites also had entry-level positions for students with a career tech or high school diploma.
