What about teaching excites you?
I love that every day in the education field is a new day, with new adventures and discoveries and experiences with the students and staff. I still love to learn, and I try to bring that excitement to the table with my students. We learn from each other and from the staff members and other students we work with on a variety of projects and curriculum.
What was your “aha” moment when you realized the value of using agriculture as a vehicle to teach science?
Farm to table (and all that encompasses) is not just for the Chefs and Foodies. We are all dependent on the agriculture industry and providing students a variety of ways to explore this field, the career pathways, the education and knowledge based in the agriculture industry, and how we are all interconnected is an important focus for all student learning.
How do you help students make the industry or real-world connection to what they’re learning?
Whether in the classroom, the lab, or operating the full service restaurant on campus, each lesson ties to a skill set or knowledge and understanding that the students will be directly utilizing in their future homes and careers. I believe it is important to help students make those connections and continue to grow and learn in a real-world application.
