Precision Ag Virtual Field Trip: Problem Solving with Tech
Biology, chemistry, environmental science, engineering, computer science and physics teachers…Connect students to cutting-edge precision agriculture technology during a live virtual event sharing how GPS and programming controls modern farming equipment.
Dr. Scott Shearer (Chair, Ohio State University Food, Agricultural & Biological Engineering), specialists from Ag Pro (North America’s largest John Deere dealer), CNH (ag/construction equipment & services) and Trimble tech professionals will demonstrate precision ag equipment and answer questions live during this 45-minute Zoom event.
Students will discover how their digital skills translate to operating million-dollar machines and solving real agricultural challenges, and see how precision agriculture technology works, including:
• GPS guidance systems navigate massive farming equipment with sub-inch accuracy
• Automated weed detection and spraying systems identify and treat specific plants
• Satellite data and sensors inform real-time farming decisions worth millions of dollars
• Cybersecurity opportunities in agriculture
Students will:
• Know…the new technologies that farms can use to protect their investments
• Understand…the vulnerabilities of our farm systems that need to be protected
• Be able to…list career pathways to technological ag careers
Perfect for classes studying:
• Computer programming and app development
• GPS technology and satellite systems
• Environmental science and sustainability
• Robotics and autonomous systems
• Data analysis and machine learning
• Engineering design and problem-solving
