Donna Parker

AP environmental science, biology, advanced research in science teacher at Dublin Coffman High School

What was your “aha” moment when you realized the value of using agriculture as a vehicle to teach science? I was raised on a farm so the ‘a-ha’ was always there!

How do you help students make the industry or real-world connection to what they’re learning?
Teaching science makes real world connections every day. In AP we take field trips to see career opportunities. Everything we study in AP is connected to the real world because humans are the ones accelerating change on Earth. In biology, it does not matter if you are studying some cellular or whole system process it connects to how all living things function and how we interact with larger systems.
