There are a variety of biochemical signals that can keep a plant from growing. These biochemical signals take a variety of forms and can disrupt normal function, or inhibit the synthesis of essential molecules needed for plant growth. Research in this area has led to push-pull agricultural pest management strategies now being used in Kenya and other African countries. Careers that use these principles include agronomists, plant pathologists, biologists, entomologists, soil scientists and researchers in other environmental and agricultural areas.
