Tim Barman, DVM
Company Veterinarian, Cooper Farms, Inc.
After 45 years of mixed, mainly food animal practice, I now work ~30-33hrs/week (part time) doing educational tours of our farms and processing plant along with talks to various groups on ethics of food animal production/animal care, animal protein production, and food waste. I also assist the other 2 veterinarians with special projects and try to field questions about various animal subjects.
What is the benefit of collaboration between industry and education?
Agriculture has done a terrible of educating John Q. Public on what we do and how we do it. The folks in production ag have been too busy working and we need to tell our story.
What value/assistance can you and your company provide to teachers and classrooms as they connect with you?
I’m willing to listen to ideas, critique and maybe add something when I can. I’d rather begin with an email and then to a phone call because one question usually leads to many more. Then we can progress to other venues if it looks promising.
Why should teachers connect with you through GrowNextGen?
I hope I can give some common sense approaches/answers to their questions. I also want to give good solid information based on fact and science which I know doesn’t necessarily sell like emotion.
