Olivia Pflaumer

Environmental science teacher at Global Impact STEM Academy

Olivia knows a lot about: environmental science, agriculture

What was your “aha” moment when you realized the value of using agriculture as a vehicle to teach science?
Everyone is connected to agriculture, whether that be through the food on their plate at the dinner table or the job that they go to at their farm each day. Agriculture keeps us all going, and by using agriculture to teach science, students are able to make real-life connections in class. Both a scientist and agriculturist must be able to evaluate problems and respond with a solution.

What about teaching excites you?
Teaching is an amazing opportunity to have a positive impact on youth. My goal is to help students find a connection between what we are doing in class and what they are doing in their lives. I enjoy the opportunity to engage with questions within science and agriculture and find answers to those questions alongside my students.
