Ohio Country Journal’s Dale Minyo was at the Chickenology workshop to promote the value of educational outreach and teacher training.
GrowNextGen’s funding comes from Ohio soybean farmers through the check off program, in which part of every bushel of soybeans sold goes to education and research. Our charge is to do outreach, connecting the public through informal learning; and to train teachers, connecting industry to the classroom.
Minyo is visiting various Ohio Soybean Council-sponsored events to get the word out! These have included trips to the Defiance Public Library and the Crawford County Fair, as well as the Ag Biotech Academy workshop and the recent Chickenology workshop.
Minyo interviewed two participants, Brian Ackert of Danville High School and Erica Hitzhusen of Worthingway Middle School, about what they were learning from the workshop and how they’d use it in the classroom. Both had great things to say about Chickenology!
