Our new partner brings a LOT to the table!

We’re partnering with CIFT, the Center for Innovative Food Technology, to bring you a great new summer workshop called Experience Food Science: Field to Package. This workshop, sponsored by the Ohio Soybean Council and CIFT with a grant from AgCredit, will allow teachers to experience the research, development, processing, packaging and distribution of food products that are safe and secure.

The food science field is full of great job opportunities, and several Ohio career tech schools are offering a credential in the Science & Technology of Food connected to Agriculture. Family Consumer Science and Culinary programs at career tech schools also offer courses related to food science.

GrowNextGen’s partnership with CIFT will provide great curriculum, industry connections for internships, and ongoing training. This summer workshop is just the beginning. Participants will be exposed to Food Science industry experts who will teach them how a food company creates a safe product, market tests it, packages it, and gets it out to the consumer. GrowNextGen presenter Jane Hunt said, “Exposing students to careers in the food industry is a great thing. I see this workshop as a cross between our regular teacher workshops and an externship. Teachers will get more exposure to the industry experts than normal due to the intensity and focus on the process.”
