A recent outreach organized by GrowNextGen industry leader Whitney Short, a CTE Education Program Specialist for the Ohio Department of Education, brought hands-on science lessons to local teachers.
The audience was primarily agriculture teachers, along with one environmental science teacher—twelve teachers total. Teachers had the opportunity to go through abbreviated versions of classroom labs led by Pettisville High School teachers John Poulson and Donna Meller. Meller is a GNG teacher leader.
Teachers completed asexual propagation, discussed meiosis and mitosis with associated activities, and soybean germination displays. All participants received a classroom set of supplies to complete the lab, along with plants for asexual propagation labs.
Attendees shared their appreciation for the variety of labs, opportunity to do the labs, and lab materials to take back and immediately implement the labs in their classrooms.
