Jackie Davis and Heidi Hisrich used their ChickQuest training in a creative way: summer camp for middle schoolers!
11 Bio-Med students helped to run the camp. 20 rising 4th-6th graders participated in this fun learning experience at the Bio-Med Rootstown campus.
“We used many activities from the book (measuring eggs, egg osmosis, etc) and also came up with some of our own—determining sex of our chicks, evolution of birds, etc.,” Heisrich said.
The camp also integrated food science and cooking. “Each day, we made a lunch with the kids that included eggs and/or chicken products,” Heisrich said.
GrowNextGen provides these workshops throughout the year for elementary teachers and extension agents. Watch our events page for upcoming workshops!
