What kind of plastic can YOU invent?

GrowNextGen, supported by the Ohio Soybean Council Foundation, facilitated a renewable plastic activity at the Invention Convention Southwest Ohio Regional Final at Central State University on Saturday, April 23. Over 250 K-8th grade students, siblings, parents, and adult mentors combined simple kitchen ingredients, including soybean oil, to invent a new type of plastic in the spirit of the event! One student exclaimed, “I cannot believe this is so easy – we should be using plants to make more things!”

Invention Convention brings together student inventors to compete against each other for educational scholarships and prizes. The Ohio Soybean Council Foundation also provided educational scholarships to three teams whose inventions focused on an agricultural problem through an award titled “Beyond the Bean—Excellence in Agricultural Innovation.”
